Zaccaria Cometti is dead, he won the 1963 Italian Cup with Atalanta

BERGAMO – Atalanta mourning the death of Zaccaria Cometti, one of the strongest goalkeepers in the history of the Bergamo club.

For a long time Cometti alternated on goal with Pizzaballa, another Atalanta legend. After finishing his football career, with the Italian Cup won in 1963, he remained in the Nerazzurri for 17 years in the technical staff.

Atalanta recalled Zaccaria Cometti with the following press note distributed on the website and social channels of the Bergamo company.

“Atalanta is mourning the death of Zaccaria Cometti, legend of the Nerazzurri club.

Bergamasco from Romano di Lombardia, Cometti is one of the goalkeepers raised at the school of Carletto Ceresoli, he plays in the First Team for 11 seasons, then becomes a coach of the nursery, then coach in the second and finally, from 1975 to 1990, coach of the goalkeepers.

They are 38 years in total: it is an absolute example of loyalty to the Nerazzurri colors.

Zaccaria Cometti is part of the unforgettable and historic Atalanta that on 2 June 1963 in San Siro beat Turin 3-1 in the final, winning the Italian Cup.
It is to be considered among the Atalantines of all time.
