ROME – 46-year-old Paulo Fonseca is the new coach of Roma. The Giallorossi club has made it official on its website. The Portuguese coach has signed a two-year contract with an option for the third year and replaces Claudio Ranieri, who had replaced Eusebio Di Francesco when the season started.
"We are pleased to welcome Paulo Fonseca to the Club". These are the words of President James Pallotta published on the Rome website. Pallotta adds: "Paulo is a young, ambitious technician with international experience, a winning mentality and is known for his brave and offensive idea of football, which will excite our fans".
"From the first time I spoke to him he immediately expressed his desire to come to Rome and his enthusiasm in accepting a new challenge, starting to work with our players to set up a team that the fans can feel proud of," he concludes.
Roma's new player comes from the Ukrainian team of Shakhtar Donetsk, where he won the cup and championship in each of the three seasons he remained on the bench. Born in Mozambique 46 years, he commented on his passage in the Giallorossi: "I am very happy to have been appointed as the new coach of Roma and I would like to thank all the leadership of the Club for the opportunity they gave me. I am enthusiastic and motivated by the challenge that awaits us and I look forward to moving to Rome, to meet our fans, to start working. I believe that together we will be able to create something special ”.
Fonseca could now lead from Shaktar to Rome Marcos Antonio, born in 2000, discovered in Portugal in Estoril and the 29-year-old left-back Ismaily.
