ROME – The Federal Council has issued its verdicts, Serie A , Serie B and Serie C have decided to restart the championship while the Amateurs stop definitively.
In short, Serie B and Serie C were in the same position as Serie A while Serie D and the other categories of Amateurs will not resume tournaments.
This is the position of the various leagues but obviously the last word will be up to the government.
Series A, B and C will resume only if the Technical Scientific Committee gives the green light to the government .
A decision on this matter, as announced by sports minister Spadafora a few hours ago, is expected to be made on May 28th.
The Federal Council has determined that the Italian football season must end by August 31st .
While the three championships, Serie A, B and C, will have to end by August 20 and then leave space for the Italian Cup.
Federal Council, Serie A should close the season before B and C for obligations with UEFA.
The Serie A season is likely to end earlier because UEFA wants to know the names of the qualifiers for the next European cups by August 3.
Not only that, between the first and second week of August the current European cups will also have to be concluded.
As for the Serie A , the parties have not ruled out any solution.
Plan A is to end the season with the same formula as at the start of the season.
But there is also a plan B that would be triggered if the championship were interrupted again for the coronavirus.
According to this backup plan, the number of games would be shortened through the Scudetto playoff and relegation playout .
There is also a plan C , which nobody wants, that of the crystallization of the current ranking .
In any case, for the Lega Serie A the important thing is to resume playing as soon as possible.
In the event of a go-ahead from the government , the clubs will seek the most appropriate formula to complete the season.
The preferred option , and this applies to both A and B and C, is to complete the tournaments with the formulas at the start of the season.
But this will only be possible with a kick-off for mid-June .
