The fall of Bjorg Lambrecht in the Tour of Poland
ROME – Bjorg Lambrecht , 22-year-old Belgian cyclist, died after a disastrous fall during the Tour of Poland, in the third stage, the one from Chorzów to Zabrze, 150 km long. The young man was immediately rescued after the fall, but his condition appeared immediately very critical. Checked that it could not be transported by helicopter, he was taken away in an ambulance and taken to a hospital where he died a few hours later.
At the moment the dynamics of the accident has not yet been clarified . From a first reconstruction, it seems that the cyclist in the fall into a ditch, perhaps caused by an illness (an autopsy will clarify the exact dynamics of the facts), slammed violently against a cement block.
Roberto Damiani, following the race on the Cofidis flagship, thus reconstructed the incident at the Gazzetta dello Sport : "Radio-corsa was not aware of the fall. When we passed we saw it in a ditch, at most a meter and a half wide. There was also a concrete bridge to cross it. His flagship, that of the UAE and those of the Deceuninck, was still.
