Tour of Poland: 22-year-old cyclist Bjorg Lambrecht falls and dies during the third stage

ROME – Bjorg Lambrecht , 22-year-old Belgian Lotto Soudal, died today, Monday 5 August, after a very serious fall at the start of the third stage of the Tour of Poland.

Lambrecht was immediately taken by ambulance to the hospital in the city of Rybnik, where, however, the 22-year-old died. The official came from the cyclist's team, Lotto Soudal, through its social channels. "The greatest tragedy that could happen to the family, friends and comrades of Bjorg – the note reads – happened … Rest in peace Bjorg". This is the message from the Lambrecht team on social media.

Bjorg Lambrecht was born on 2nd April 1997 in Ghent. Growing up in the nursery of Lotto Soudal, one of the most important Belgian teams in the World Tour, Bjorg Lambrecht had turned professional in 2018. Among the Under-23s he was silver at the World Cup in line at Innsbruck 2018 and silver at the Plumelec European Championships 2016. In 2019, it won the youth classification at the Delfinato Tour, finishing 12th at 3'17 "with the winner Fuglsang. A real promise of cycling that like many Belgian riders dreamed of winning one of the Northern classics in the future. A dream broken by a fall that cost him his life.
