Milan, Leao must compensate Sporting Lisbon for 16.5 million

ROME – Rafael Leao , AC Milan striker, will have to compensate Sporting Lisbon for 16.5 million euros , the club from which he was released in the summer of 2018 following the attacks suffered by the team by fans.

The story is reported in the Portuguese sports newspaper Record . The verdict of the Tas de Lausanne, which overturned what was previously established. Leao , unilaterally released, in the meantime had moved to France to Lille from where Milan had bought him last summer for 35 million.

Sporting Lisbon had approached Fifa contesting the validity of the contractual termination and explaining in the appeal that "at the time the player did not have valid reasons to terminate the contract that bound him to our club" and asking for financial compensation. Fifa had rejected the appeal calling it "inadmissible" but now Tas has forced Leao to pay 16.5 million euros. (source ANSA)
