Coronavirus, Tokyo 2020 Olympics postponed to 2021 but will not change their name

TOKYO (JAPAN) – It was in the air but now it's official: the Toky0 2020 Olympics will be postponed to 2021 due to the expansion of the coronavirus in every part of the world.

The decision was communicated by the IOC, the International Olympic Committee, through this message published on its website and on its social channels.

“The Games are postponed to 2021, not later than the summer, to safeguard the health of athletes and all participants. They will keep the name of Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games ".

So the Olympics will be played in the summer of 2021 from July 24 to August 9 (the same period that was also planned for this summer).

Although they will be held in 2021, they will keep the denomination of Toky0 2020 Olympics , this too was established by the statement released by the IOC.

A similar decision has been made for the European football leagues. Euro 2020 was scheduled from 11 June to 11 July but has been postponed to 2021 to combat the coronavirus emergency.

But UEFA has decided to change its name. The first itinerant European championship in the history of football will be called Euro 2021.

The match venues do not change, among them there is Rome where the Italian national team coached by Roberto Mancini will play all the matches in the group and, in the event of a shift, also some knockout matches.
