PARIS – There are 282 Algerian supporters stopped by French police throughout France during the clashes triggered by the celebrations for the victory of the Algerian national team in the Africa Cup of Nations semi-final, thanks to a goal from Mahrez, against Nigeria.
In Paris, where incidents between Algerian supporters and law enforcement officers have exploded on the Champs-Elysees, 50 people have been arrested. In Lyon and Marseille many clashes, particularly in the Old Port of Marseille, where there was a ban on access and where the police used tear gas. The Interior Minister, Christophe Castaner, welcomed – in a tweet – with "the policemen, gendarmes and firefighters mobilized all night".
Already in the days before the party after the victory in the quarterfinals against the Ivory Coast, it had become a succession of looting, violence and total anarchy. On the Champs Elysees even a person with a chainsaw appeared. The most serious episode, however, had taken place in Montpellier where a 21-year-old fan had lost control of his car, overwhelming and killing a woman who was walking with her two children.
Similar episodes also happened in London . Fireworks, a "seized" bus, shattered shop windows and even a police car damaged during the festivities. (source AGI – DAILY MAIL)
