The Italy of football has lost its mind: stop whining! now we need a change, it is not the first time this has happened

Stop whining. It's time to turn around, change your mentality. Is the Italy of football in psychodrama? Can't digest Qatar's elimination from the World Cup?

The culprits are hunted according to Italian custom. Calm. It is not the first time this has happened, if anything let's hope it is the last. And then it will be good to remember some things.

1) In twenty years – from the 2006 triumph to the 2026 edition – Italy will have played the misery of six matches in the World Cup. Twice eliminated in the first round, twice not even qualified. This is enough to understand that our football is sick.

Wembley? An impromptu magic. A triumph that has only masked a crisis that is at all levels. Let's take the stadiums. It is not possible to build new ones (few exceptions). Old stadiums, anti-historical, anti-economic, unsightly, unsafe, unsuitable for families.

But how is such a cultural backwardness possible in Italy?

2) Since June 2, 1962, we have alternated thuds and triumphs. From the World Cup to Chile. In Santiago Italy lost 2-0 to the hosts and also lost their heads, finishing in nine. In 1966 in Middlesbrough (United Kingdom) we eliminated North Korea with a goal from Park Doo-ik that an urban legend passed off as a dentist. He was actually a physical education teacher. But it changes little.

Five days later the Azzurri were welcomed in Genoa with a throw of rotten eggs and fresh tomatoes. Then the swing began: world champions in 1982, out of the 1984 Europeans, world champions in 2006, eliminated on penalties in the 2008 Europeans.

In 2014 at the Brazilian World Cup the patatrac you don't expect: blues made outside Costa Rica, more or less a team of heroes by chance like Macedonia. At home the coach Prandelli and the president Abete; we thought we had hit rock bottom. It was not so. Unfortunately.

3) The worst materialized at the Meazza in Milan, November 2017. One more playoff, one more flop. We had to go to Moscow 2018 and Sweden with a 0-0 (they had won the first leg 1-0) stole our place.

At home the coach Ventura naturally without blame. Then came the Wembley resurrection, the raving and raving crowd, the double-decker bus. A July 12 of the magical Twenty-first. Fantastic year. Things from nine months ago. And in nine months we went from heaven to hell. Lost face, image, Fifa ranking (goodbye top 10?). Goodbye sponsors, awards, TV rights, the Made in Italy showcase. And contracts to be reviewed, Adidas and Rai in the lead. The repercussions on our economy are a blow to the GDP. All right, it didn't take. The important thing now is to react.
