ROME – The most exciting Champions League race in recent years has yet to award two seats for the top European club competition. Inter and Atalanta are favored by the ranking and by the calendar but anything can still happen. Let's analyze the situation starting from the standings : Inter third with 63 points , Atalanta fourth with 62 points, Roma fifth with 59 points, Torino sixth with 57 points and Milan seventh, but has one game less, with 56 points.
Race Champions, Inter and Atalanta favorites but Rome, Turin and Milan do not give up.
As said, Inter and Atalanta remain favored for qualifying for the top European club competition but mathematics still gives hope to others. Inter could mortgage the Champions League qualification against Chievo Verona, already relegated to Serie B. Then the Nerazzurri will face Napoli and Empoli.
Atalanta will host Genoa which, paradoxically thanks to Roma, is quieter because it has led to more 4 on the relegation zone but obviously it is not saved yet. Then Atalanta will see it with Juventus and with Sassuolo.
Roma chases Atalanta starting from the match against Juventus. The bianconeri will be decisive in this Champions' race because they will first face the Giallorossi and then the Bergamo players. Then Roma will play against Sassuolo and Parma, two teams that are already safe.
The Torino still has to play against Sassuolo, already saved, Empoli, in the race for not relegating, and Lazio, which on the last day may not have any more classification goals.
AC Milan will be looking for a win against Bologna to catch Roma in fifth place in the standings (it is ahead in the direct clashes with the Giallorossi). Then the Rossoneri will challenge Fiorentina, Frosinone and Spal, three teams that have no more ranking goals.
Below is the outline with the matches of the teams that are in the running for a place in the next Champions League.
