ROME – Burvin Albion's English striker Marvin Sordell (League One) has decided to retire from football at just 28 years old.

"I have been a victim of racism on various occasions – he said on social media – I saw an incredible amount of bullying, manipulation and verbal abuse that dirty this world. A combination that brings me to the decision to stop being a professional footballer, knowing that I will be a happier man and that I will return to love football as I have not done for years ".

Former English under-21 star Sordell has also thought of suicide in the past : “I was desperate – the footballer writes – I wanted to escape the emotional grip that depression had on me. Writing poems, however, gave me the opportunity to pour emotions out of my mind ".
