ROME – Violent robbery at the home of Jan Vertonghen . Four of them armed with machetes raided the home of the Tottenham defender and threatened his wife and young children. The blow occurred while the player was on the field engaged in the Champions League match between Spurs and Leipzig.
Knives in hand, the robbers screamed and railed against the footballer's wife, Sophie, who hugged her children in hopes that the nightmare would end without tragic consequences. Thieves quickly raided valuables and other personal belongings.
Fortunately, neither the woman nor the children were injured in the robbery. The player then learned of the incident only later after the game was over.
