ROME – Italo De Zan , 94, died in Treviso from Coronavirus . Former cyclist, originally from San Fior, he had also won a stage at the Giro d'Italia in the days of Coppi and Bartali .
The Tribuna di Treviso reports the memory of the Cycling Museum: “Great friend of Coppi and Bartali, he received numerous tips from the first, with the second he was periodically at dinners here and there for Italy, having in common with the mythical Tuscan character , as well as the passion for cycling, also a strong love for the refinements of good food ".
Treviso Today adds: De Zan had been hospitalized in Conegliano, then he had been transferred last March 4 to the infectious diseases department in Treviso, where he died. He had been, in the past, a great cyclist, the first professional in San Fior.
His victory in the Naples-Fiuggi stage of the 1948 Giro d'Italia is historic. He was a professional from 1946 to 1952, obtaining four victories.
