FLORENCE – Rocco Commisso , American billionaire of Italian origin, founder and president of the cable services giant Mediacom , should conclude an agreement to purchase Fiorentina in a few days . The New York Times wrote about its online edition. Commissioner, who moved to the United States when he was 12, is also the president of the New York Cosmos . Last year, the NYT remembers tried to take over Milan, but its public purchase offer had failed.

If the agreement with the Della Valle brothers is successful, the newspaper underlines, Commisso will join the list of American football club owners: Milan is owned by Elliott Management's hedge fund, Rome is in the hands by James Pallotta and there are property groups linked to North America in Bologna, in Serie A and in Venice, in Serie B.

Commissioner, 69, has appointed JPMorgan Chase to conduct negotiations with Fiorentina and in recent weeks has had contacts with representatives of the Della Valle family, owner of Fiorentina since 2002.

The New York Times also reports the sales figure: about 150 million dollars, or 135 million euros. The transfer of the club could be made official by Monday, according to sources that requested anonymity because the agreement has not yet been perfected in every detail.
