ROME – Finally, UEFA has aligned itself with the decisions of the national championships and has decided to suspend both the Champions and the Europa League to fight coronavirus infection. In the next few days, Euro 2020 could also be officially postponed.
In such months, it makes no sense to allow the dispute of the first traveling European football championship in history.
The competition had been structured in this way to increase earnings and to allow fans from all over Europe to follow their Nationals of the heart in the most beautiful European capitals (there was also Rome among the chosen cities).
UEFA wanted to continue the two competitions but eventually surrendered to the objective difficulties of the case.
Spain and Portugal do not allow flights to and from Italy; for this reason Cristiano Ronaldo was stuck in Madeira and it was not possible to play Inter-Getafe and Sevilla-Rome of the Europa League and Barcelona-Naples of the Champions League.
Not only that, after Daniele Rugani's positivity, both Juventus and Inter players have been placed in a state of preventive quarantine. This is because Juve challenged Inter in the last championship match.
Juventus is not the only club to have adopted such a measure, Real Madrid has also done so in Spain. So the next Champions League games Juventus-Lyon and Manchester City-Real Madrid would not have taken place.
Between postponements, quarantines and coronavirus infections, Uefa could no longer keep the European cups going.
