NAPLES – Summer transfer market is like this. In a few hours, Napoli has gone from the dream of buying James Rodriguez and Pepé to the real possibility of staying with a handful of flies in their hands.
For James Rodriguez it seemed to be done because the player had promised his old coach Carlo Ancelotti but after the serious injury suffered by Asensio, which forced him to skip the whole next season, the Blancos would have decided not to sell the Colombian anymore for the good grace of Naples and Atletico Madrid.
The Pepé affair also seemed to be in the pipeline because Napoli had reached an agreement with both Lille, based on seventy million euros plus the Africa champion's tag with Algeria Adam Ounas, and with the agents of the footballer, who had arrived specially in the summer camp of the Campania club in Dimaro.
The BBC is certain: Nicolas Pepé will not move to Naples. The Lille, in fact, would have found the agreement with Emery's Arsenal for 80 million euros and the Ivorian striker would have accepted the transfer to the Premier League.
Arsenal would not be new to such hits from France. Two years ago he bought Lacazette from Lyon for sixty million euros (including bonuses). The Pepé affair would be nothing but a "Lacazette bis".
If both James Rodriguez and Pepé were to fade, Napoli would throw themselves headlong into the Mauro Icardi affair. The Argentine striker is leaving Inter and may not be bought by Juventus who in recent hours is intensifying negotiations with Manchester United to bring Romelu Lukaku to the orders of Maurizio Sarri (probably an exchange with Paulo Dybala).
In that case, Icardi, who is off the table at Inter, should accept either the proposal from Napoli or that from Roma (which, however, would prefer to buy Gonzalo Higuain as admitted even at the press conference by the new DS of the Giallorossi Gianluca Petrachi).
