ROME – Zaniolo, in common agreement with the medical staff of Rome and with that of the Italian National Football Team, would have decided to skip Euro 2020 to return in time for the next pre-season retreat of Rome in July, Il Corriere dello Sport reports in his online edition.
Zaniolo, no Euro 2020: it is the best decision for his career. Needless to risk.
Zaniolo is carrying out rehabilitation after breaking the anterior cruciate ligament of his right knee on 12 January during the championship match between Roma and Juventus. From that moment on, Zaniolo pushed hard to be ready for the next European football championship but in the end he had to give up.
Risking him for the European championship would not be prudent and could put his career at serious risk. Better to let him recover calmly, according to schedule, and then get him back on the field in July with Roma.
In this way, Zaniolo could prepare the next season in the best way. It is never good to skip the pre-season retreat, where you train to have an optimal physical condition for the rest of the season (source Il Corriere dello Sport).
