ROME – A survey was officially opened by UEFA on the dual gesture of the military salute of Turkey's players, during the two Euro 2020 qualifying matches at home with Albania and in Paris against France.

An inspector was charged with investigating "a behavior of potential political provocation", as anticipated Saturday by ANSA by a Uefa spokesman. This is not yet a real referral, because the players' gesture was obviously not on the scoresheet of the inspectors present at the stadium.

"The double standards of the West must end. Everyone knows that the salute to the soldiers made by our national team players is a gesture of peace ". So the Turkish Minister of Youth and Sport, Mehmet Muharrem Kasapoğlu'Ndan, after the decision of the EU to open an investigation into the gesture of the players' military salute, during the qualifying matches for Euro 2020 against Albania and the France.

The minister – as reported by several Turkish media – showed a photo showing the Frenchman Antoine Griezmann, while saluting during a meeting with the French president Macron, underlining how it is "a positive gesture" and that "we want to give a different interpretation of the gesture of our players, "with clear reference to the French minister Maracineanu who called for intervention by UEFA. "Our country – added Kasapoğlu'Ndan – will never give up the spirit of peace, brotherhood and friendship".

Uefa has opened disciplinary proceedings also against Bulgaria.

Also the English federation was referred for whistling at the Bulgarian anthem. The date of the discussion of the disciplinary procedure has yet to be established (source Ansa).
