FLORENCE – German Pascal Ackermann won the 2nd stage of the 102 / o Giro d'Italia of cycling from Bologna to Fucecchio (Florence), 205 kilometers long.
The Slovenian Primoz Roglic has kept the pink jersey he wore yesterday after the opening time trial in Bologna.
Ackermann, with a time of 4h44'33 ", beat Italian champion Elia Viviani in the sprint, who attempted a desperate comeback in the final meters, and eventually finished in second place. The Australian Caleb Ewan was third, the Colombian Fernando Gaviria fourth only, among the favorites on the eve. Fifth place for the French Arnaud Demare, sixth the other Italian Davide Cimolai.

The 102 / o Giro d'Italia of cycling, in the 2nd stage scheduled today, celebrated Gino Bartali and Indro Montanelli. From Emilia to Tuscany, from Bologna to Fucecchio (on the debut as a stage) on a 205 km long route that also touched the provinces of Prato and Pistoia, before arriving in the district of Florence. Montanelli was born in Fucecchio 110 years ago, in 1909, the year in which the first edition of the pink race was held. The departure meeting was set in Piazza Maggiore, in Bologna, the start was given at 12.20, after a 5.5-kilometer queue.
The route started to climb up to the Apennine brow, followed by a long descent to Prato. The stage continued with a series of ascents and descents of varying difficulty, but above all with the Grand Prix of the mountain at Montalbano (the Castra, 424 meters high, after running 157.6 kilometers) of 3 / a Category: yes it is a 5.8 km long climb with a 6.8% gradient.
Other Gpm after 178.7 km, in San Baronto: 340 meters high by 4 / a Category. Even in the final kilometers the ups and downs were not lacking, with the last 4 km on narrow roads. The final straight is 900 meters long and 7 meters wide.
The flying goals are placed after 130.2 km, in Montespertoli, and after 146,7 km, in Empoli. The arrival is set in Via di Fucecchiello, between 5 and 5.30 pm.
