ALBI – The Belgian Vout Van Aert won the 10th stage of the 106th Tour de France of cycling, from Saint-Flour to Albi, 217.5 km long, beating sprint to the photo finish Elia Viviani.

Julian Alaphilippe has kept the yellow jersey of leader of the general classification, on the eve of the first day of rest.

Julian Alaphilippe is a French road cyclist and cyclocrossist who runs for the Deceuninck-Quick Step team. Professional since 2014, he won the Milan-Sanremo in 2019, the Freccia Vallone in 2018 and 2019, a stage in the Vuelta a España 2017 and two stages and the climbers ranking in the Tour de France 2018. He was also ranked second in Liège -Bastogne-Liegi 2015 and at the Giro di Lombardia 2017, and third at the Milan-Sanremo 2017.

Originally from Cher, he began to compete in cycling at the age of thirteen.   Among the Juniores it wears the uniform of the Union Sportive Florentaise Cyclisme of Saint-Florent-sur-Cher, and in 2010 it is a silver medalist in the world championships of cyclocross.

He made his debut among the Elite / Under-23s in 2011 with the Armée de Terre amateur team (the French army team), winning the following year a stage at the Coupe des Nations Ville de Saguenay, a Canadian race valid for the Cup of the Nations U23.

In 2013 it is among the ranks of the Etixx-Ihned, training Omega Pharma-Quickstep Continental nursery: in season it wins four races on the Europe Tour calendar, including a fraction of the Tour de Bretagne and one of the Tour de l'Avenir (race in which he also wins the points classification).

Past professional at the beginning of 2014 with the Omega Pharma-Quickstep team, in the first part of the season he obtained two stage podium finishes at the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya, World Tour race. In August he placed third at RideLondon – Surrey Classic, while at the following Tour de l'Ain, in France, gets the first pro win in the fourth and final leg, also winning the points and youth rankings.

It makes its debut in the 2019 season at the Vuelta San Juan where it shows that it already has a good condition by winning the second and third fraction (time trial), and finishing second in the final general classification. In mid-February he won the fifth stage and the points classification of the Colombia Tour.

On March 9 the Strade Bianche wins, after attacking with Jakob Fuglsang and Wout Van Aert 24 kilometers from the finish line and having beaten the Danish in the sprint; two weeks later he also won the Milan-Sanremo, ahead of the Belgian Oliver Naesen and the Polish Michał Kwiatkowski. This result allows him to become the new number one in the UCI world ranking (sources Ansa and Wikipedia).
