Yes, Sofi. So, with that gratitude in the heart … promise me never to lose it again! You swore to yourself that you would never again take for granted a curve without pain … you learned again that all those wonderful things that make up "normality" are anything but free, but an immense gift. You left again once again, from a distance, but this time you could count on the experience accumulated over the years. Each step was literally a conquest … and the path – between choices and sacrifices, awareness and uncertainties – was anything but easy: complex and painful but at the same time extremely magnificent and rewarding. Thank those who have been close to you … their support has been fundamental and it is also thanks to those people, those who loved you for the person you are even before the skier, that you are there today: but remember Sofi that no step it will never be as solid as those that only you can undertake for yourself; remember that at the gate tomorrow with the bib worn, there will be only you … I nod. I deserve to run. So much. Curve after bend … It is a healthy emotion that accompanies me in my first race of the season. Sofi, you are free … and do you know why you are? I nod as I ask myself this in the mirror. I nod and respond to the reflected image I see, smiling: "Because I have myself". I'm exactly where I want to be. Again! Superg, number 6, Garmisch-Partenkirchen!

January 19, 2016. Three years ago. I look at this picture and as far as it is distant, the memory is near and indelible. I seem to feel the emotion that had pervaded me when I asked LINDSEY VONN for permission to take a picture with her. A name of such a caliber and of such respect that it had the power to make you dream big and make you extremely small at the same time. Who was I in comparison to such a giant? I remember I was in fibrillation. It seems strange now but, at the time, asking for a souvenir photo with her was an act that had required a generous dose of "courage". I was deeply moved; it had been unbelievable how fluently he had answered me by agreeing: how much happiness I had felt, how I had vibrated! I, Sofia, after years of injuries and various tribulations, the perennial search for a personal and ski solidity, I was there, to admire that woman, who in my eyes was the perfect woman, untouchable and unreachable in skiing, a sacred monster, a 'icon of our sport, the idol that has inspired generations and who, in the darkest moments, has always given me the strength to move forward and continue to dream. I had the chance to see Lindsey at close range and ask her for a little piece of her … what did I want more? I had seen and experienced everything through that red Dainese fire lens, the only one of that color that was delivered to me, lens that I would never have dreamed of using two years later on the Asian continent taking part in the free descent of the Olympic Games .. A year ago in "my" Cortina I won my first red bib, winning the race right in front of her. Today, exactly three months have passed since I broke my fibula; if I'll be fine soon I'll have the chance to compete with Lindsey again: his last appearances … The lens and the mask I use now are different … but the world of Sofia is enclosed in the wonderful prospects that those ski goggles have provided years. I do not care how much time will pass, but I have the impression that Lindsey Vonn will ALWAYS watch her with the eyes of that January 19, 2016 ..
