“Sexist bikini”, Norwegian national handball team with shorts instead of briefs: she is fined

They had refused the bikini, judged "sexist" according to them, and so the Norwegian handball team took the field with shorts instead of briefs. It all happened during the Beach Handball World Championships in Bulgaria. The Norwegian athletes, however, have broken the regulation , according to which in fact the uniform in accordance with the sport of handball is a top and briefs. Like a bikini in short. And so the Norwegians, who risked a disqualification, were instead then fined.

The bikini and the protest of the Norwegian national team

"Ours was a spontaneous action from the start, not a protest gesture," said Norwegian athlete Katinka Haltvik. Since the first match, the team had in fact communicated that it wanted to participate in the tournament wearing more opaque clothing, receiving a "no" from the disciplinary commission. Hence the accusation by the Norwegian captain of a "sexist and embarrassing" choice by the organizers.

And what does the regulation say?

According to the regulations, players must take the field wearing trousers "at least ten centimeters above the knee". The players are instead required to wear a bikini bottom that has a maximum width of ten centimeters in all. Too short for the Norwegians, who will now have to pay a fine of 1500 euros. Full support for the team came from the Norwegian Handball Federation, who commented on Twitter: “We are very proud of these girls who raised their voices and said that too much is too much! Together we will continue to fight to change the rules of dress so that the players can play with the clothes they prefer! ”.
