Rocky Johnson and son The Rock
TORONTO – Rocky Johnson is dead . The famous Canadian wrestler and father of the actor and wrestler The Rock, whose real name is Dwayne Johnson, was 75 years old.
Johnson was born in 1944 in Amherst, Nova Scotia, Canada, under the name Wayde Douglas Bowles. In the 1960s, when he began his wrestling career, he legally changed his name to Rocky Johnson. He initially fought in the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) and was later recruited by the World Wrestling Federation (WWF), the most important American wrestling federation.
Rocky Johnson retired from wrestling in 1991 and became the coach of his son Dwayne , who was born to his wife Ata Maivia, daughter of another famous wrestler, Samoan Peter Maivia. Just in honor of his father and grandfather, at the beginning of his career Dwayne fought using the name Rocky Maivia, which then years later changed to The Rock. (source: APNEWS).
