Referee dad fines son who swears. It happens in England, only in cricket

We don't know much about cricket in Italy, but we certainly suspect that alongside that basic baseball there is above all a very British sportsmanship.

Not that cricketers don't get angry, swear and insult like naughty children all over the world: but if the referee catches you swearing he makes you pay. On the pitch, in front of everyone.

Chris Broad the champion, Stuart the referee dad

As happened to Stuart Broad, a classy bowler, a kind of pitcher, however a champion of England (and, at 34, not quite a kid).

He was busy in the tests against Pakistan: in the second inning he eliminated the leg-spinner (a kind of catcher) Yasir Shah.

Spoiled celebrating especially swearing and insults the opponent. At that point, referee Chris Broad, look a bit former player and above all father of the intemperate Stuart, fined him.

That is, he basically confiscated 15% of the match fee. In addition, he imposed a demerit point that is added to the other two.

If you exceed 4 in 24 months they disqualify you (the BBC sports editorial staff does not say for how long).

What remains is the gesture, the correctness of a referee who does not look anyone in the face, much less his son if he fails.

The other bell should also be listened to, Stuart did not complain and accepted the fine, but what an intransigence dad.

Luckily for him – Covid permitting – he shouldn't meet him on a cricket pitch anymore. Pandemic and lockdown have decimated the referees of the level, father Chris, local referee, was ordered out of pure emergency. (source Bbc.com)
