Ratko Rudic retired from water polo, he won everything with Settebello and Pro Recco

RECCO – Ratko Rudic leaves Pro Recco and water polo , at least on the bench.

The coach, who was also coach of the Italian national team , decided on the verge of 72 years to end his long adventure in Bordovasca , greeting the Ligurian club .

“The decision to end my career as a coach came before the Coronavirus emergency broke out – Rudic's words made known by the champion club of Recco – and I communicated it to President Felugo .

I wanted to finish my career with a great result and make myself available to the company in another role to contribute to the realization of the project.

Certainly with the pandemic many things have changed , the future is uncertain and we will see how the activity will be organized ".

Ratko Rudic made the blue Settebello legendary.

Rudic, in 1991, moved to the leadership of the Italian national team.

On the blue bench he collected 445 appearances and won the Grand Slam of water polo: gold medal at the 1992 Olympics, the 1994 World Cup, the 1993 and 1995 European Championships and the 1993 World Cup.

On the bench of Italy he also won two silver medals in the World Cup (1995 and 1999), a bronze at the 1996 Olympics and the 1999 European Championships.

The period as technical commissioner of the Italian national team, however, ended with ignominy.

At the end of the quarter-final of the 2000 Olympics lost by Italy against Hungary, he was involved in a fight which cost him a year of disqualification and exemption (sources Ansa and Wikipedia).
