ROME – For the second consecutive year the last two Champions League places could be decided by direct confrontations. If Juventus and Naples are now sure of participating in the next edition, a more complex situation regarding the last two boxes available: in fact, there are six teams that can still hope and, in some cases dream, to participate in the most fascinating and rich European competition .
As we said the ranking , five days from the end, from the third downwards reads: INTER (61), MILAN (56), ATALANTA (56), ROME (55), TURIN (53), LAZIO (52).
The regulations of the Serie A in fact provide that if two teams arrive at equal points (such as Milan and Atalanta at this time), to determine the ranking the points in direct clashes are taken into consideration first. In case of further parity, the discriminating factors are: goal difference in direct matches, general goal difference, greater number of goals scored in general, draw. If three or more teams arrive at equal points, the divorced classification will be considered, drawn up exclusively on the basis of direct clashes between the teams involved.
INTER: the Nerazzurri are ahead of Milan and Lazio in the direct matches. The double draw in the challenges against Roma would make the overall goal difference decisive: currently Inter is at +24, Roma is at +12. Inter would be disadvantaged in the event of a tie with Atalanta and Torino.
MILAN: the arrival on equal points with Atalanta, Lazio and Roma would see the Rossoneri take the lead. The opposite of what would happen with Inter, given the two derbies lost. To be decided again with Torino (0-0 in the first leg).
ATALANTA: ahead with Inter and at a disadvantage with Milan and Turin. Double 3-3 with Roma: the team with the best goal difference, currently Nerazzurri at +24, Giallorossi at +12 would be favored. In two days there will be a match against Lazio (1-0 for the Bergamo team in the first leg).
ROME: with Inter and Atalanta the goal difference would be (for now the Giallorossi are at a distinct disadvantage). In advantage only with Torino and disadvantaged even in the event of a tie on points with Milan and Lazio.
TURIN: two crucial matches to play with Milan (0-0), and with Lazio (1-1). Toro did better in direct clashes with Inter and Atalanta, while against Roma he lost twice.
LAZIO: waiting to host Atalanta (1-0 defeat in the first leg) and visit Torino (1-1) the Biancocelesti start from a position of advantage only with Roma, while it is below in comparison with the Milanese.
