CHICAGO – Patrick Day , the 27-year-old American boxer who has been in a coma for three days, died after last Saturday's match with Charles Conwell in Chicago. A deadly hook, in the tenth round, had knocked him out.
In the match Day he was knocked out of both the fourth and eighth rounds. After the knockout he remained a few minutes in the ring, unconscious, and was taken away on a stretcher and hospitalized for severe head injury at the Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago . His condition had appeared immediately "extremely critical".
To give the tragic news, during the night, was his promoter, Lou DiBella. In the three days of hospitalization, the whole world of sport had tightened around him. Even his opponent Conwell, who participated in the 2016 Olympics, invited his fans to pray for Day.
It was not enough to save his life the delicate surgery immediately to the brain, to remedy the consequences of the blows received. After three days, Day's heart stopped beating.
