"The DJ, 23, gave the news while he was headlining at the Amsterdam Dance Event on October 19th. The song, which will see the collaboration of a famous singer, will be presented in the spring of 2020. Both artists will perform it in full for the first time during the opening ceremony of UEFA EURO 2020, scheduled at the Olympic Stadium in Rome on June 12 .
In addition to the official anthem, Garrix will produce the music that will accompany the teams on the field and those to be used in all official broadcasts. "It is a great honor to create the official anthem of UEFA EURO 2020 and I am excited to make it heard by everyone," said Garrix. The tournament will bring football fans closer than ever and I hope my song will make every European citizen feel part of the event. "
"Organizing UEFA EURO 2020 in 12 cities is incredible, but it's the perfect way to celebrate the 60th anniversary of this great competition. Music is my passion, but I also like football, so it's even more special to be able to create the anthem of what will be the biggest European championship in history ”.
Inspired by the exploits of fellow countryman Tiësto at the opening ceremony of the 2004 Athens Olympics, over the years Garrix has been able to climb the world rankings, placing successes such as "Don't Look Down (feat. Usher)", "Scared to be Lonely (feat. Dua Lipa) "and" In the Name of Love (feat. Bebe Rexha) ". Garrix has also produced tracks with the biggest names in the music industry such as Tiësto, David Guetta (author of the official UEFA EURO 2016 anthem) and, more recently, Dean Lewis for the new single "Used To Love".
Guy-Laurent Epstein, UEFA marketing director, said: "UEFA EURO 2020 will be a month of celebration throughout Europe. To give the festivities away, there is no better person than Martin Garrix. Music and football can bring people together: since the tournament will be played in 12 cities, the common theme of UEFA EURO 2020 will be unity ”.
