Messi and the 700 million clause, La Liga sides with Barcelona

Too many rumors about the 700 million clause in Messi's contract so La Liga decided to clarify with a press release.

La Liga takes a position in the open dispute between Leo Messi and Barcelona siding with the Catalan club.

In a note relaunched by the Spanish media, the football federation officially announced that the existing contract with the blaugrana club is currently valid and in force.

To free himself, therefore, the Argentine player must pay the termination clause, of 700 million euros, prohibitive for all the teams that have approached the player's entourage in recent days.

Messi, according to the document, would therefore not be free to sign with another team before having resolved the situation with the Barcelona management.

The 'Pulce', however, does not seem to have any intention of mending the rift with the club of which it has become the flag given that in the morning today it has deserted the medical visits scheduled for the players of the first team.

The press release of La Liga is reported by Corriere dello Sport.

"In relation to the different interpretations (some of which are in contrast with each other) published in recent days in various media, relating to the contractual situation of the player Lionel Andrés Messi with FC Barcelona , La Liga considers it appropriate, after analysis, to clarify the contractual situation of the player with his club.

The contract currently in force has a termination clause applicable if Messi opts for the early and unilateral termination of the contract.

Clause carried out pursuant to article 16 of Royal Decree 1006/1985, of June 26, which regulates the special employment relationship of professional athletes.

In compliance with the applicable regulations, and following the corresponding procedure in these cases, La Liga will not carry out the previous visa procedure for the removal of the player from the federation if the amount of this clause has not been previously paid "(source Agi and Il Corriere dello Sport ).
