NAPLES – After a very long push and pull, Dries Mertens would have decided to renew his contract with Napoli.
The Belgian would have decided to refuse the offers of Inter and Roma that have been courting him for months.
According to what is written by gianlucadimarzio.com, the agreement would provide for two and a half million to the player at the time of signing the new contract, a biennial of four million per year plus bonuses .
This is the basis of the new agreement which should bind the parties until 2022 .
The renewal was a question of money but the link between Mertens and the city of Naples also weighed on the choice.
It is no coincidence that the Belgian is the idol of the Campania supporters who affectionately calls him "Ciro".
Since 2013 he has played for Napoli, with which he has won an Italian Cup and an Italian Super Cup and of which he is the best scorer in all official competitions, on an equal footing with Marek Hamsik, as well as the best scorer in European competitions.
He was included in the AIC Team of the year of the 2016-2017 Serie A championship and, individually, he was elected Belgian footballer of the year in 2016.
With the Belgian national team he participated in two world championships (Brazil 2014 and Russia 2018) and one European (France 2016), obtaining third place in Russia 2018 (source Wikipedia).
