ISCHIA (NAPLES) – Ischia and the whole world of football in mourning: Mario Perego died . The player who trod the fields of A and B between the 1970s and the early 1980s died on Saturday June 1st at the age of 74.

As a wing or striker as he was originally, Perego turned into a fluidizing quarterback, before moving on to the position of free at the end of his career.

Before joining Fiorentina and Lanerossi Vicenza, in the 1971-1972 season Perego had played in Corrado Ferlaino's Napoli with Zoff, Improta, Altafini and Juliano. He had also been in the National team, with which he debuted against Austria. In the 1979-1980 season, during the match between Lucchese and Benevento, the knee ligaments broke in a clash with the goalkeeper , ending his career.

Born in Corezzana, in the province of Monza, in 1944, in about twenty years of professional football Perego had toured Italy far and wide and, although he had never played on the Verde Island, he had chosen Ischia to live with his family.
