Ligue 1 starts again on August 22nd. Lyon returns to Europe thanks to a cup final against PSG

PARIS (FRANCE) – We joked. Or almost … this year's Ligue 1 is definitely over but the cups will still be awarded.

The next Ligue 1 will start again on 22 August but the cups of this season will still be assigned and for this reason Lyon, Juventus' next opponent in the Champions League, is back in the running for a place in Europe.

French football is reorganized, after the abrupt stop for the pandemic that has caused quite a few controversies.

The board of directors of the LFP, taking into account the decisions of today's General Assembly (including those of the session of last 23rd ), confirmed the relegations to Ligue 2 (our Serie B) of Toulouse and Amiens, but also the consequent promotions in Ligue 1 of Lens and Lorient.

He also decided that the top French championship for the 2020/21 season will start again on the weekend of 22-23 August and then end on Sunday 23 May 2021.

Ligue 1 definitively ended but Lyon returns to the race for a place in Europe.

The final of the League Cup, between Paris Saint-Germain and Lyon, which was scheduled for April 4, will be played on July 31 on the ground of the Stade de France in Saint-Denis, in Paris.

Lyon, therefore, returns to the race for a place in Europe, after the exclusion linked to the championship stop.

The final of the French Cup, which will always involve PSG, but against Saint-Etienne, however, will be staged on July 24 (it was scheduled for April 25), always in the sumptuous Parisian facility that in 1998 hosted the final of the World cup (source Ansa).
