ROME – Nordic skiing is mourning the sudden death of Johanna Bassani.
The young athlete died at the age of 18 from causes that are still to be ascertained.
Bassani was considered one of the most talented athletes on the international scene.
The young Nordic ski champion was remembered with the following statement from the Austrian federation.

"With great dismay and deep sadness, we take note of the news of the death of a young sportswoman, belonging to our Nordic combined team (she had been included in team B for the 2020/21 season) and one of the great talents of this discipline ".
Another tragedy, avalanche falls off on skis: 20-year-old Swiss died.
A 20-year-old Swiss ski mountaineer died this morning after being overwhelmed by an avalanche on the Swiss side of Mont Brulé, a peak of 3,538 meters on the border with the Aosta Valley.
He was rescued at the end of his life and taken to the hospital in Zion, where doctors reported death.
The excursion companion who was with him, a 21-year-old compatriot of his, was seriously injured.
The accident – reconstructed the Cantonese Valais police – occurred during the ascent phase, at an altitude of 3,400 meters.
It was 9.30 am when an avalanche (a wind plaque) broke off under their skis. Other ski mountaineers who witnessed the accident provided first aid to them until the helpers of the 'Maison Fxb du sauvetage' arrived.
On site, two doctors from Air Glaciers and Air Zermatt, a doctor and a mountain guide, as well as the policemen intervened.
The Valais prosecutor has opened an investigation to ascertain the exact dynamics of the incident. (source ANSA).
