Ilicic recovered from infection: "I was afraid of dying as Astori"

BERGAMO – Ilicic has recovered from bacterial infection to the lymph nodes but has spent a very difficult time and has feared to die as Astori. The Atanta striker confessed in an exclusive interview with Corriere dello Sport.
"What happened to Astori stayed in my head for days. I could no longer sleep because I always thought about it. And when I was sick this summer I really thought it could happen to me too. There was a time when I was afraid of going to bed and falling asleep "
"I was afraid. I said: and if I wake up tomorrow morning? How will I no longer see my family? There are people who ended up in a coma with my same problem. To me the infection has remained confined to the lymph nodes of the neck, to other people it has spread. If I think about it … "
"I stopped watching football and games on TV, I only thought about my family to save myself and recover. At one point I even hoped to be able to go back to walking like a normal person, not even being a footballer … then I got out of it altogether ".
