NAPLES – Mourning in the world of sport. Giuseppe Auriemma , historical swimmer, disappeared at the age of 77, he was an Italian swimming record holder in the 400 mixed races, as well as playing water polo with the Circolo Rari Nantes in Naples in the sixties and seventies.

"The whole Rari Nantes family huddles around his wife Rosaria and the children of dear Peppe, who has written unforgettable pages in the history of the Santa Lucia club," commented the historic Neapolitan club, which this year celebrates 115 years since birth.

A message of condolence also comes from AIA Water Polo, the Italian Association of Water Polo Referees, of which Auriemma was a part after stopping playing. “The whole world of water polo mourns Giuseppe Auriemma, who passed away at the age of 77.
