GENOA- Thiago Motta's experience on the Genoa bench is already at the end. The former Inter player had been appointed as coach of the rossoblùs after Aurelio Andreazzoli's exoneration but has never convinced and should now be exonerated after the heavy defeat of San Siro against Antonio Conte's team. In his place, Diego Lopez , former coach of Cagliari, Bologna and Palermo, should arrive.
Who is Diego Lopez. He is a former footballer who played in Cagliari from 1998 to 2010. He previously wore the shirts of Racing Santander and River Plate Montevideo. Lopez, who was a Cagliari flag, was included in the Sardinian club's Hall of Fame. After hanging up his boots, he started his coaching career in Italy.
After training in the youth teams of Cagliari, Giovanissimi and Primavera, he was appointed assistant coach of the Sardinians. Shortly thereafter he became head coach of the Cagliari first team.
Before returning to Uruguay, to coach Penarol, Diego Lopez also took away the satisfaction of coaching Bologna and Palermo. Over the course of his career, he won an America's Cup with Uruguay in 1995 and an Uruguayan championship with Penarol in 2018. Lopez is now about to return to Italy to train Genoa.
