ROME – A record-breaking cyclist Carl Grove. In fact, at the age of 90 he won two titles at the Masters Championships in Breinigsville, Pennsylvania, last July 2018. However, the cyclist was found positive for doping due to the presence in the blood of epitrenbolone, an anabolic steroid, and Usada has revoked the records. The elderly cyclist defended himself by claiming to have eaten "contaminated meat", a defensive thesis that was accepted by the anti-doping agency.

On July 11, Grove had participated in the pursuit and time trial cycling competitions of the 90-94-year-old category, winning "easy" given that he was the only competitor on track for his category. The cyclist, however, during a urine check carried out by the US anti-doping agency Usada was positive for an anabolic steroid, epitrenbolone. The elder defended himself by claiming that he did not take doping substances, but was positive for having eaten contaminated meat without his knowledge.

The Usada has accepted the defensive thesis of the cyclist and so he decided to deprive him of the title won in the chase race, leaving him however the victory at the time trial.
