ROME – Basketball player Danilo Gallinari was subjected to appendectomy for about a month from the start of the World Cup . The intervention, carried out in laparoscopy at the Verona hospital in the presence of the Azzurro medical health staff, was perfectly successful, according to a note from Federbasket.

Gallinari (who plays in the NBA) will have to observe a few days of rest and then undertake the rehabilitation process and return to work with his companions in the Rome meeting (12/14 August). His conditions will be monitored daily by the national medical staff at the gathering in Verona.

Gallinari and the goals of Italy at the World Cup.

A few days earlier, Gallinari had expressed the hope of experiencing a magical summer with Italy at the World Cup and then, in the future, of winning an NBA ring. Gallinari had inaugurated the new basketball court, redeveloped thanks to the "We Playground Together" project, in Viale Sarca in Milan without hiding great ambitions: "Dreams are free and can be realized, so you should never set yourself small goals. For the World Championships we have a lot of expectations, we can bother many and for talent and experience, in my opinion, we can aim for a medal ".

Despite the possible absence of Nicolò Melli (knee surgery), Gallinari does not want to hear about alibis: "Melli is fundamental for us and I hope he will recover in time. But the excuses are for the losers, the winners find solutions. We must be a team of gladiators, it serves to excite the audience. Some opponents have real arsenals available but there have always been surprises ". (Source Ansa).
