MADEIRA (PORTUGAL) – Cristiano Ronaldo broke the silence from his luxurious Portuguese home in Madeira .

The Portuguese champion has returned to his homeland to closely follow the rehabilitation of his mother Maria Dolores Aveiro, back from a stroke.

Mum is fine but Ronaldo was unable to return to our country because the Portuguese government banned him with a decree. A similar decision had been made by Spain a few hours earlier.

Ronaldo updated his Instagram profile to express his solidarity with all the people who are fighting against the coronavirus.

“The world is going through a very difficult moment that requires the utmost attention and care from all of us. I speak to you not as a footballer but as a son, as a dad, as a human being concerned about the latest events that are affecting the whole world.

The important thing is to follow the directions of the World Health Organization and the governments that are managing this situation. Protecting human lives comes before anything else.

I want to send a thought to anyone who has lost one of their loved ones, my solidarity with those who are fighting with the virus like my partner Daniele Rugani, and my continued support for the extraordinary team of health personnel who fight and put their lives at risk for save our ".
