ROME – “The World Health Organization has declared the coronavirus pandemic. It means that it is absurd to speak of a neutral field for football ".
So to ANSA the president of the footballers' association, Damiano Tommasi comments on the hypothesis put forward by the Getafe dg that UEFA can propose to recover the Europe League match with Inter in a third country.
"We are all involved, unfortunately there is no neutral field in this emergency," he added.
Tommasi expressed himself in these terms after UEFA's proposal to play Inter-Getafe in a dry game on a neutral pitch. Proposed that would also apply to the Seville-Rome Europa League and Barcelona-Naples. UEFA wants these games to be played, at the cost of playing them on a neutral field.
All this because the Spanish decree has issued a decree prohibiting flights to and from Italy. So the Spanish teams cannot go to play in Italy and the Italian teams cannot fly to Spain to honor their European commitments.
A possible neutral field, it could have been a Portuguese stadium but Portugal is also in the process of issuing a decree similar to the Spanish one. As Tommasi says, in pandemic times there are no neutral fields. Football should stop. Completely (source Ansa).
