Coronavirus, FIFA: “Extending contract deadlines, flexible market between the two seasons”

ROME – Fifa sets the rules to resolve the regulatory crisis in which world football has fallen after the suspension of leagues and cups for the coronavirus.

In Italy, but also abroad, many clubs had placed themselves within a framework that envisaged the end of competitive activity after 30 June.

This is because, on June 30, many contracts of the players expire, some go away and others return to the base, and from the first of July the summer transfer market begins.

Fifa has solved this problem by proposing an extension of the contracts of the players until the actual end of the competitive activity (i.e. until the end of national championships and European cups).

Fifa has also solved the transfer market problem . The summer and winter windows will be replaced by a single large and flexible transfer window.

This will allow clubs to recover lost ground from the coronavirus.

To explain all this is Infantino, Fifa boss. His statements are reported in the Gazzetta dello Sport.

“Although this initiative will not solve all the problems, it could serve to give stability and clarity to football in the near future, it being understood that we must all be clear, especially in an exceptional moment like this, that health has priority.

It is necessary to extend the duration of the contracts until the moment when the football season really ends.

This extension will apply to contracts that were due to start early next season.

The entry into force of these agreements must be postponed to the real start of the football season ".
