ROME – Cicinho could have done much more than he did in the world of football. His crystalline talent, which led him to wear important jerseys such as those of Real Madrid and Rome , was curbed by his addiction to alcohol and smoking. The Brazilian himself revealed it through an interview released in Brazil.

The statements issued by Cicinho to "Estado de Sao Paulo" are reported by the Gazzetta dello Sport in an article signed by Massimo Cecchini.

"I started drinking between 13 and 14 years old, when I went to Botafogo in Ribeirao Preto – revealed Cicinho, who retired from competitive activity in 2018 – They told me that the beer was good and I started drinking it. It all started with the first drink and I never stopped until I was 30.
In short, for almost twenty years I can say that I have exceeded. Beer cans? I drank about ten a day because he had no money, but then, when football gave me well-being, I started drinking everything. Vice for smoking? Sure.
I smoked for eleven years, from 1999 to 2010. I only smoked when I drank, but since I always drank … My experience in Rome? I began to lose the pleasure of playing – he admits -. I've always been in love with the ball, but when God makes a gift and we don't know how to handle it, it's because something is wrong.
I no longer had pleasure in entering the field, training and concentrating. It happened to me when I was thirty when I was under contract with the Giallorossi ".
Cicinho was saved from meeting Marry De Andrade, then married with a double rite, civil and religious. Thanks to his wife, the ex Roma player managed to get behind two heavy addictions such as that for smoking and alcohol. If he had known her before, perhaps he would have had another type of career.
