Champions League, Lisbon favorite for the Final Eight. Europa League in Germany?

NYON (SWITZERLAND) – On 17 June the UEFA Executive Committee will meet in Nyon to make a final decision on the Champions and Europa League .

At the moment there is only one certainty : the competitions will end in August after the national championships.

This decision is in line with what was also established in Italy.

The Serie A will end on 2 August , the following day the participants in the next European cups will be notified to UEFA .

UEFA has not yet made its decision official, but media hypotheses flock around the world.

Lisbon would be the favorite city to host the Champions League final phase while four cities in Germany should host the last act of the Europa League.

There is also some background on dates.

Let's start from the Champions League.

At the moment only Atalanta, Leipzig, Paris Saint Germain and Atletico Madrid are certain of the qualification for the quarterfinals.

All other teams must earn this milestone on the field.

City host Real after winning 2-1 in Madrid.

Juventus try to comeback against Lyon after losing 1 to 0 in France.

Bayern host Chelsea after making it 3-0 in London.

Napoli look for the company in Barcelona after the 1-1 game at San Paolo.

These games must be finished before the now likely final eight.

These matches could be played on the weekend of 8 and 9 August.

Once the eighth finals are over, the magnificent eight who will play the cup in Portugal will remain.

These teams should compete in knockout matches.

So this Final Eight will be organized in a total of 7 games.

According to the latest rumors, the Champions League final should take place on August 23 at the Da Luz stadium in Lisbon.

Let's move on to the Europa League.

Again, the idea is to end the missing matches of the round of 16 and then assign the trophy in a final eight.

Rome and Inter are the only two Italian teams left in the running.

Both will face a Spanish rival.

Roma will play against Sevilla while Inter will face Getafe.

With these recoveries closed, the eight remaining teams are expected to play for the cup in Germany.

UEFA would accept the proposal from the German football federation, the first to restart during the coronavirus.

So the Europa League could be awarded between Cologne, Düsseldorf, Duisburg and Gelsenkirchen.

Again, this would be dry knockout matches.

So also in Germany a total of 7 games would be played (4 quarters, 2 semi-finals and 1 final).

It is likely that the Europa League final will be played before the Champions League one but there are no unofficial dates yet ( source BBC ).
