Zambrotta was swept away by a very dangerous high-leg intervention by Hwang Sun-hong. Byron Moreno sanctioned the foul with a simple free kick, without extracting any card against the South Korean footballer. After 17 years, Moreno is back on his feet: "That foul on Zambrotta was red," he commented.

Byron Moreno, not just Italy-Korea: here are his judicial troubles.

On September 21, 2010 he was arrested at JFK airport in New York, while trying to enter the United States in possession of about 6 pounds of heroin. The arrest was announced by the DEA. Moreno worked as a sports commentator on a radio and TV channel in Ecuador.

On September 23, 2011 he was sentenced to two years and six months by the New York district court. He was released early in December 2012 for good conduct, he was extradited to Ecuador, where he is under investigation for tax evasion.
