Australian open, Lorenzo Musetti triumphs among the juniors: he is the first Italian in history

ROME – The Australian Open is colored in blue. On the fast concrete fields of Melbourne in fact the 16 year old Lorenzo Musetti , young promising world tennis player, from Carrara, won the junior tournament.

The Tuscan athlete, number 4 of the world in the young category, has beaten in the final the American Emilio Nava, 17 year old and number 22 in the ranking, with the score of 4-6 6-2 7-6 (12) at the end of a infinite tie-break. Musetti is the first Italian to win the Aus Open junior version.

"I worked hard to succeed in this result, I was hoping": these are the first words of Lorenzo Musetti after the victory of the junior title at the Australian Open in Melbourne. That the young Tuscan tennis player could make it to conquer Melbourne had already emerged at the end of the youthful US Open, last September, when the blue was bent by the Brazilian Seyboth Wild after a hard battle.

Musetti showed his talent and the speed of his growth, a very young man who plays with the style of the great ones who already have experience. No Italian had ever won the youth title at the Australian Open, nor even the actual title, indeed in the long years of history of the prestigious Melbourne Slam the Italians never managed to reach the final. That of Musetti, at just 16 years, is therefore a real exploit that bodes well for the future of blue tennis. In the youth field, the best Italian placements at the Aus Open date back to 2007 and 2013, when Thomas Fabbiano and Filippo Baldi arrived in the semifinals
