Tour around, Autostrade per l'Italia opens 5 rides for everyone among the beauties of the country
ROME – It will be a great showcase of the beauties of the Italian province, to be experienced by bicycle like the heroes of the Giro d'Italia. “Il Giro nella Giro” is born, the original initiative conceived and created by Autostrade per l'Italia with the support of RCS Sport, on the occasion of the 2019 Giro d'Italia . Five stages of varying difficulty that will allow anyone who wants to explore the beauties of the Italian panorama on their bikes.
The initiative brings together the most famous and followed Italian sporting event of the Giro d'Italia, of which Autostrade per l'Italia has been a partner for many years, with the project "You are in a Wonderful Country" through which the company promotes the heritage artistic, cultural, naturalistic and gastronomic of the Italian province, telling and enhancing 300 experiences involving over 1000 Italian Municipalities and 40 Unesco assets present in the peninsula.
It is an integrated promotion system that – starting from the large gilded frames positioned within 100 motorway service areas – uses TV, the web, printed media and “Touring” posters installed along the highway and which has exceeded 7 million of contacts per year. It was from this experience that the idea of connecting the Giro d'Italia with four wonderful Unesco sites was born, proposing as many rides to amateur cyclists who – starting from the national cycling competition – will end up right in front of goods declared "heritage of the humanity".
The sites of high artistic and cultural value involved in the four stages of the "Giro nel Giro" are the historic center of Florence, the Villa Adriana in Tivoli, the Paleochristian Monuments in Ravenna and the Villa Barbaro in Maser. The selected stages are of different technical difficulty, so as to allow the participation to a differentiated audience of enthusiasts: from the 47 kilometers of Vinci-Florence, of medium / high complexity, with a hilly course to face and then enjoy the unique scenery of the historical center of Florence from Piazzale Michelangelo; to the 31 kilometers of the Frascati-Tivoli, with arrival right at the entrance of the beautiful Villa Adriana. More simple, almost relaxing, are walks on the plains to reach Villa Barbaro, in Maser (31 kilometers from the city of Treviso), and 10 kilometers from the center of Ravenna to the Basilica of Sant'Apollinare.
The initiative was devised by the Director of External Relations, Institutional Affairs and Marketing of the Atlantia group and of Autostrade per l'Italia, Francesco Delzio, who declared: "The Giro nel Giro is a hymn to beauty: that of the artistic heritage declared heritage of the humanity, which make Italy unique from the province to the cities of art, and at the same time that of amateur cycling capable of involving and engaging the whole family. With this very special Giro Autostrade per l'Italia re-launches its social role as a tool to promote the beauty of the territories crossed by our network and as a showcase of the best values of the Italian identity characterized by a unique intersection of landscapes and human activities ".
To conclude the calendar of "Il Giro nella Giro" this year there will be the great "classic" on the A1 Panoramica, which will take place on May 25th: an event that is renewed for the fourth consecutive year and that allows over 1000 fans of the two wheels to realize the "forbidden dream" of pedaling on a motorway for about 36 km of ups and downs from Puliana to Pian Del Voglio and back (the affected section will obviously be closed to traffic for the event, while the Direttissima will remain open instead unfolds in parallel).
Each amateur stage will start in the hours before the official start of the Tour of Italy, right from the starting point of the stage, so that amateurs can feel an integral part of Italy's most important cycling event. After experiencing the spirit, the music, the colors and the stands that animate the Giro Village, like the professionals competing for the pink jersey, the members of "Il Giro nel Giro" will wear a bib with number and go will be given by the official speaker of the event.
The races will take place for an initial route on the Giro track, with open traffic, with controlled speed, and with road assistance in opening and closing the caravan by the technical staff of the Giro d'Italia. Once the Unesco good has been achieved, the participants will have the time to rest and refresh themselves in the corners set up ad hoc by Autostrade per l'Italia with fruit, multivitamins and water and will be able to visit the cultural heritage achieved. After the break, the caravan will return, again with the assistance of the technical staff of the Giro d'Italia, to the starting point.
Registration for the Giro in the Giro is already open, to participate it is sufficient to register, in a simple and free way, from the Autostrade per l'Italia website (www.autostrade.it). Only with regard to pedaling on the Panoramica, it will also be possible to participate in the initiative by registering in the morning, at the gazebo that will be set up at the Spartaco Banti sports field in Barberino del Mugello.
