Aduriz retired from playing football, he was an Athletic Bilbao legend

BILBAO (SPAIN) – Aritz Aduriz Zubeldia has decided to retire from football at the age of 39 due to serious injuries that had hit him in the past month.

Aduriz played with several teams but was above all an Athletic Bilbao legend.

With the Basque club he broke all the goals records and for this reason he also gained 13 appearances with the Spanish national team scoring two goals (one against Italy).

Aduriz said goodbye to football played through this press release published on social media and reported by Corriere dello Sport.

“The time has come, many times I have said that football abandons you before you do it.

Yesterday the doctors recommended me to undergo surgery, to put a hip prosthesis to try to live everyday life in the most normal way possible – wrote Aduriz -. Unfortunately my physique said enough.

I will not be able to help my teammates as I would have liked and as they deserve, but this is also the life of a professional.

We are experiencing much more serious and painful situations, the pandemic we are suffering has already done irreparable damage and we must all continue to fight it – continues Aduriz -.

So don't worry about me, let's forget the dreamed endings, but we'll have time to say goodbye.

The farewell time has come, so my journey ends which has been unique, unforgettable and wonderful from beginning to end ".
